Public Organisation helping the civilian population of Chernihiv region, affected by russian aggression

Hello! I'm Ksenia Kudryavtseva, the founder of the Desna NGO

On February 24th, I wrote to friends and family asking if they had any money to stock up on food, hygiene supplies, and medicine. At first I was sending my savings, but later realised I haven't been able to handle the necessary volume of aid.

The Russian army quickly surrounded Chernihiv, and active shelling began. People moved to bomb shelters. It became dangerous to go to the stores, and supplies quickly ran out. We organised a group of people who delivered food and medicine to bomb shelters or directly to the homes of people with limited mobility.

The city was surrounded for about 35 days. During this time, we were founding warehouses with supplies, and developing the complex logistics around enemy's positions from other cities to deliver essential medicines, food, power generators for hospitals, and bomb shelters. After the de-occupation of the Chernihiv region, we have been delivering food and medicine to looted villages that survived the occupation. And now we continue projects to restore housing and infrastructure in Chernihiv communities.

When the war started, I was abroad. Being in a safe place, I still couldn't help but worry about my loved ones and my country. It all started with small things, and then there was just a flow that was impossible to stop. Everything else around did not make as much sense as the desire to help.

Helping Ukraine is my pain reliever in this war. I just can't help it. Those whom I help may think that I am saving them, but I am primarily saving myself here. I can't imagine how I would have survived this war if I hadn't started volunteering from the first days.

I couldn't stand still when people needed help and I was able to help!

Oksana Ignatova

Volunteer

My volunteering path started in 2014 and my social activities in 2004. It was my experience and reputation that helped me with a clear understanding to act quickly and effectively from the beginning of the invasion. My inner strength is that I have always been there for other people.

Our activity

At Desna, we help people restore their homes, provide children with tablets and laptops for remote learning, and provide generators and other alternative sources of energy. We organize one-time initiatives, such as sending food to occupied territories and helping children's homes.

More about initiatives>

We have been working since February 2022 and registered an official organization, the Desna NGO, in June 2022. We aim to be more transparent and take advantage of the opportunities for official organizations.

You can help
